A planet is defined as celestial body that orbits a star or stellar remnant. Therefore, according to this definition, a planet cannot exist without a host star. However, there are other objects in the universe that might closely resemble planets but don't orbit anything larger, such as the rogue planets, also known as interstellar planet or free-floating planet which does not orbit a star.
