  • Buck Moon in July: Meaning, Folklore & What It Symbolizes
The Full Moon in July is Known as the Buck Moon Due to the Transformation in the Antler Growth of Male Deers

The Algonquin tribes observed the changes that were taking place in the natural world and gave names to the full moons that reflected those changes. In July, the newly grown antlers on male deer were beginning to emerge as soft, fuzzy spikes. As these antlers continued to grow, they started to look like buds. The growth on these deer was taking place so quickly that the bucks shed the velvet-like covering that protected the antlers. This led to the name Buck Moon.

The Full Moon in July is also called the Thunder Moon, the Hay Moon, and the Wort Moon.
